The S & L Store was founded by Samuel Salkin and Joseph Linoff in 1921, and opened in 1941 in downtown Dickinson. It took over the former building occupied by the Reed Brothers store at 38 1st Street West. Herb Griffin was the first manager. The department store sold a wide variety of items, including clothing, shoes, bedding, fabric, and many other household items.
