Transcription

"Buffalo" Gus Meschke, last of the Buffalo Hunters, lives on the Little Missouri River just North of Medora and the Theodore Roosevelt National Memorial Park. Meschke acquired the title 'last of the buffalo hunters' when he shot buffalo trespassing on his land years ago. As a result of the fracas, Gus resumed a wilting career he had dropped many years before, and began a column called "BUFFALO STEW" which appeared in the Belfield News until it ceased publication and now appears in the Billings County Pioneer. He is a spicy, colorful writer and character.

This is Bicentennial Story No. 138, prepared by Muriel Hurt for the Stark County Historical Society.
