Transcription

From 1906 to 1908 the homesteaders came thick and fast. A group of French Catholics took up homesteads in the area neighboring Belfield. Some of them were the Dorval's, Richard's, Booke's, Beaudoin's, Tessier's, Savageau's, Fugere's, Oulette's, Marchands, Critteli's, LeDoux's, LaClair's, and others. The French community was a happy sociable, fun loving one and they enjoyed getting together to play cards and dance. They were active in community affairs and were strict church goers.

In 1912 The Lady of Our Lourdes Catholic Church as built and it was a predominately French parish.

This is Bicentennial Story No. 143, prepared by Muriel Hurt for the Stark County Historical Society.
