Bowling
Bowling in Dickinson apparently goes back to the days when Charles DeFoe installed some lanes in the Armory. In 1912 these lanes were moved to the basement of the Walton Block (Service Drug), and then sold to Frank Hondl and then to Joe Privratsky. Later the business was sold again, to Jerome Messmer, with Don Culver managing it. Other early bowling lanes are mentioned in the St. Charles Hotel building.
In 1948, after a several-year absence of bowling in the city, Paul Ebeltoft and Dave Price installed eight lanes at the Stark Motor building's second floor (103 East Villard).
Jerry's Lanes
In 1950, Jerome Mischel began leasing the lunch counter at this "alley" and two years later he bought the entire business. In 1959 Mischel constructed a new facility, Jerry's Lanes, at the corner of West Villard and State Avenue. The business was later known as Classic Lanes and was owned by AI Kramer.
