Description

A photo of Dickinson, N. D., east of the Railroad Depot. In the bottom of the photo are railroads with box cars, cabooses, a steam engine with a coal car, and a railroad passenger car. The words Northern Pacific are on all of the railroad cars. A sign on the side of the passenger car reads Pianos, Player Pianos, and other words that cannot be read. 2 buildings on the far right left are 1st the Railroad Telegraph Office. The building next to it is the Hughes & Deiter Electric Light Plant. The last building is a warehouse building. The main street is Villard. Running into Villard is Barnes St, now called 1st West. On the left corner of Barnes and Villard was a Bank, next a Crockery, next a Grocery and Hardware store, and next the St. Paul Hotel. On the right corner of Barnes and Villard was a Jewelry store, an unidentified store, a Hardware store, a Drugs and Jewelry store, the Villard Hotel, other unidentified store, and finally the last store on the right of the photo is a drug store. Early 20th century cars are seen on Villard St. On the right side of the photo a water tower can be seen. On the left side of the photo the 1st of the 2 large, 3 story buildings, is the Dickinson elementary school, and the 2nd building, behind it, is the Dickinson high school. Exact date unknown.
