Title
Austin Western Company
Description
An outdoor photo. Probably taken in the 1930s. The first Jessen building, in the center of the photo, has the year 1908 with the letters "A" and "D" located on the top of the building. The 2nd Jessen building is located at the corner of Villard St. and 1st Ave. West. On the corner of the building is the Berzel Bakery, with a sign above the entrance. In front of the Bakery is a Coca-Cola sign, that says: "Ice Cold Coca-Cola Sold Here", another sign says: "Model Smoking Tobacco", another sign says: "Drink Nehi", on the side of the Bakery is another Coca-Cola sign that says: "Drink Coca-Cola Delicious and Refreshing", above the Coke sign is the word "Confectionery", and finally a beer sign that says: "Berzel's Lunches, Beer on Draught, Hamm's Beer Leads them all". In the window around the corner are several signs for various products as well as a movie poster for the film 'The Black Cat' which was released in 1934.
On the right side of the Bakery is a grocery store, with a "Red Owl Store" sign hanging outside, and below the sign are the words "Groceries, Fresh Fruit". Inside the store windows are canned goods, and food sales signs. Just behind the Red Owl sign is a sign for the Heidelberg Inn bar downstairs. To the right of the Red Owl store is the Lish Hardware store. 3 cars and 1 truck are parked in front of the building.
At the back end of the building is a sign that says "Beauty Parlor" and a sign that says "Nate Young, Watches and Diamonds".
Also seen are light posts with 4 lights. People are also seen crossing the street in front of the building. Exact date of photo is unknown but guess 1934 due to the film poster.
