H. Desmond-Cowboys of Southwestern North Dakota
Description
William "Billy" Howard Chaloner (1867-1935). Chaloner was national bronco buster champion and for 25 years, state champion. From Virginia City, MT, he came to Dakota in 1890, worked as a cowboy and foreman and had livery barn in Dickinson before establishing his ranch in 1914 near Watford City. He also ran a Missouri River ferry until 1928. He was a friend of Roosevelt and deputy sheriff under Stark Co., sheriff John Goodall in 1901. Portrait. Identified.
