The first post office was established in Belfield on October 18, 1883. John Harbison served as postmaster from 1883 till 1888 at which time James W. Sellman took over. He served in that capacity until June 8, 1900. Since 1900 eight other men have acted as postmaster. George Dietz is currently postmaster having received his appointment in 1956.
The village of Belfield was incorporated in 1910 with James Eslick serving as president of the board. In 1915 the village was incorporated as a city. Belfield has had 14 mayors, including its present mayor Frank Kordonowy.
