Title

Fred Turner Blacksmith Shop

Description

Fred Turner's blacksmith shop on the corner of 1st Ave. East and 1st St. East looking to the northeast. On the front of the photo is, "Missouri Slope Establishment / Blacksmithing and Heavy Hardware / Dickinson N Dak" and "FW TURNER / Proprietor".

On the left is a two story brick building with a balcony on the front. Painted on the side of the wall is, 'Blacksmith'. The front of the balcony is unfenced to accommodate a hoist which is on the balcony. On the side of the balcony are the words ' TH Brien Blacksmith'. This is in reference to the previous owner of the shop. Turner rented the shop from Brien in August 1901 and ran it for several years before purchasing the shop from Brien in October 1904.

On the right is a one story wooden building with open double doors. Along the right side of the building are a number of wooden wagon wheels and other buggy parts. On the south side of the building are three large banners that read Wednesday, July 18 and something else that is unreadable. There is the head of an Aermotor windmill visible above the roof of the wooden structure. There are seven men standing in front of the two buildings, four of them in leather blacksmith aprons. Not identified.

Written in the lower right corner is, "203 414." Written on the back in the upper left is, "414" and on the right, "NEG #64."
