Description
Portrait of Crows Heart. He is wearing a buckskin shirt, a beaded necklace, and a headdress made of eagle feathers. These war bonnets were sometimes worn into battle, but they are now primarily used for ceremonial occasions. Plains Indians normally used eagle feathers as the most significant part of the bonnet to represent honor and respect. Eagle feathers are used because the eagle is considered by most tribes of the Interior Plains to be the greatest and most powerful of all birds. Exact date and location unknown. Identified. Written in the lower right is, "12/A6." Written on the back at the top is, "#360 ALBUM / 76 SCRIPT." Stamped in the center of the back is circle with numbers around the edge. Inside the circle is, "JAN 1937 / MADE BY THE / OSBORN STUDIO / DICKINSON, N.D."
