Villard Street, Dickinson
Title
Villard Street, Dickinson
Description
Villard Street looking west. Most visible in the photo are the buildings on the first block of East Villard: the opera house, St. Charles Hotel, Kihm Hotel and pool hall, restaurant and clothing store in the Berry Building, Dakota National Bank and the Leonberger building.
The Dickinson Opera House shows 1 poster on the right side of the building reads A MAD LOVE, Lady Audley's Secret. 2 posters on the front of the building read A Mad Love, the rest of the words cannot be read. According to the Dickinson Press, A MAD LOVE opened at the Dickinson Opera House on August 23, 1906. The next building was the St. Charles Hotel. 2 awnings on this building both read St. Charles., and a sign at the top of this building reads St. Charles Hotel. Next to the Hotel was a Cafe in the Kihm building. The next store is The Hub with an awning that reads Shoes in the Berry Block. The next building is the Dakota National Bank Building. The last is the small wooden Leonberger building on the corner before the new brick block replaced it.
Across the street in the next block the 1st 2 stores were general stores. The 3rd store was a drug store. The further down the street, one looks, the more blurred the negative is. Several men can be seen standing or walking on the sidewalk. They are wearing jackets, pants, and hats. On the far left side of the photo are telephone poles with telephone and electric lines. Written near the bottom as part of the image is, "[V]illard St Dickinson. N.Dak." Written in the lower right corner is 70 / 83 [crossed out]."
Written on the back in the upper left corner is, "#83 ALBUM / 134 SCRIPT / 8-14-88 COPY." Written on the back on the right side is, "(70) / NEG #121."
