Woolworth's
Woolworth’s was a long-term general merchandising name across the country and in Dickinson was the F.W. Woolworth Company, which opened its local store on Villard in 1927. This was in the same location as the old Dickinson Mercantile.
In April of 1948, Woolworth's moved to its location at 2 1st Street West. This location had been the site of pioneer doctor Dr. V.H. Stickney's house, which included a house, yard, barn, and corral. In 1959, the store was converted into self-service and more space was added. In 1970, the store was greatly expanded into a two-level department store with a memorable escalator and carried a large and varied inventory.
