Wm. ( Bill ) McCarty-(1878-1958)-Worked on ranches in Oklahoma in his youth and drifted on to Texas and New Mexico as a young man .He trailed horses into the Hettinger area in 1900. After ranching in several areas he bought the "Custer Trail" ranch south of Medora. He was a noted horseman, roper, cattleman and a Wild West showman known as ""Badlands Bill McCarty." Portrait. Identified.
