Transcription

In the days of the open range in Dakota, huge herds of Buffalo roamed freely. One day a herd was gamboling over the rolling plain, raising a large cloud of dust and rumbling like thunder as it pounded the turf. Suddenly the leader stopped, and the whole herd came to a standstill. The dust settled and the echoes died out. After about fifteen minutes of dead silence, one of the calves could not stand the eerie silence any more, and asked the bull why they had stopped. With a disappointed tone in his voice the bull said: I THOUGHT I HEARD A DISCOURAGING WORD!!!

This is Bicentennial Story No. 96, prepared by Father Louis Pfaller for the Stark County Historical Society.
