Transcription

Settlement in the South Heart region began in May, 1881 when William Kennedy came from Minnesota as the first section foreman. Later that year the Monoghan family arrived, also working for the railroad company. Archabald Morton became the first homesteader in 1882, and in 1803 Bernard Finger took up land, established a store and became the first postmaster. A year later the store burned and with it the post office, which was then set up in the Kenedy home where it remained until 1916. It was only in 1908 that the town of South Heart was platted, a sort of compromise between the sidings of Eland and Zenith.

This is Bicentennial Story No. 83, prepared by Father Louis Pfaller for the Stark County Historical Society.
