Transcription

A scientific wheat farmer in Holland, a Dutch banker interested in foreign investments, and a priest interested in getting Hollanders to North Dakota were responsible for the first Dutch immigrants to South Heart. In 1907, through the efforts of Father John Van den Huevel of Beach, the banker bought a 1600 acre ranch near South Heart and Gerald J. Perdaems came from Holland to farm the large tract. He proved to be an excellent manager, scientific wheat farmer, as well as a model cattleman. His success encouraged other Hollanders to come to the Belfield--South Heart Area.

This is Bicentennial Story No. 84, prepared by Bea Peterson for the Belfield News.
