Transcription
As early as 1905 the Catholic Ukrainians north of Belfield built St. Demetrius Church at Ukrainia, and later another Church at Gorham. Father Roman Wolenetz was the first pastor. Over the years the Ukrainian population has shifted, so that the original churches were relocated. In 1945 they built St. John's Church in Belfield, and in 1949 St. Demetrius parish bought 40 acres along Highway 85 and moved the church there. Almost single-handed, Father Michael Bobersky planted thousands of trees around the parish property, and recently the beautiful setting was featured in North Dakota Horizons as a little prairie paradise. Father Bobersky has been pastor of St. Demetrius since 1945.
