When is the "birthday" of Dickinson State College? Is it February 5, 1915, when Governor Hanna signed the legislative resolution for its establishment? Is it November 7, 1916, when the people of the state voted favorably on the amendment to the Constitution? Or is it June 24, 1918, when a summer session was held under the direction of Dickinson Superintendent Peter S. Berg in the old Dickinson High School Building? Or was it September 30, 1918, when the President Samuel T. May welcomed 33 students to classes in the Dickinson Elks Building which remained DSC's home for six years until May Hall was built
in 1924.
The first student to register on that first day was Aimee Bell Persons of Dickinson. Also among those who came that first day was Mathilda Stoxen and her two sisters from Taylor. Miss Stoxen would later serve for 39 years as DSC's librarian.
