In 1919, the Legislative Assembly appropriated $90,000 for a dormitory on the bare campus of DSC and, at the same time, an additional $44,000 for a heating and power plant. The cornerstone-laying for DSC's first building took place with a great deal of ceremony on June 27, 1921. The Dickinson City Band played, the audience sang "America," and Father Dignam gave the invocation. Former State Senator M. L. McBride gave an address entitled "The Fight We Made," and Dr. Victor Stickney placed the cornerstone and gave a talk entitled "Facing the Future" and DSC's first building was officially launched. Attorney W. F. Burnett was master of ceremonies. The structure was completed and occupied in 1922, and named "Stickney Hall" in honor of Dickinson physician Victor Stickney and his wife. It was the only DSC dormitory which was built with appropriated funds, and now serves as a faculty office building.
