Like Noah's Ark, the Presbyterian Church of Belfield was built on account of a flood. During the years of 1904-1905 there was a damaging flood in this part of the state. Because of washouts, trains were tied up here unable to go East or West.
As one of the days fell on a Sunday the Presbyterian minister, Rev. Anderson held services on the flat, just about where the main part of town is now located. Before the offering was taken he told the congregation that all money received would be put into a building fund to start a Presbyterian Church in Belfield. The collection was gratifying and a church was built. The first church was built of stone in 1907, but the construction wasn't satisfactory so it was torn down and the present building was built on the same location in 1910.
This is Bicentennial Story No. 142, prepared by Muriel Hurt for the Stark County Historical Society.
