First school building in Dickinson, ND. Written in the lower right corner is, "37." Written on the back in the upper left corner is, "15 ALBUM / 137-88" and on the right is, "-(39)- / -82-."
This was the first building built specifically for use as a school in Dickinson and was constructed in 1884-1885. In 1891 it was purchased by William Ray who enlarged it and used it as a residence after the new Central school/High school was opened.

I always thought that house was the first hospital

This was the first building built specifically for use as a school in town and was constructed in 1884-1885. In 1891 it was purchased by William Ray who enlarged it and used it as a residence after the new Central school was opened.
The first hospital in Dickinson was in the Walter and Mary Ballard house on 1st Avenue E. The house is no longer standing but was on lots where part of the parking lot is for the building at 117 E 1st St.
