Transcription

The first electrical power plant in Dickinson was Hughes Electric, which also furnished heat to some buildings. In time, Hughes Electric sold out to Dakota Public Service, which in turn was purchased by MDU in October, 1954. MDU built several transmission lines to join the large generating plants in North Dakota and Montana, as a safeguard against power failure. The larger company gradually phased out the small power plants.

In 1930 the company built a 12 inch gas pipeline from Cabin Creek in Montana to Bismarck and constructed the distribution systems in Belfield, Dickinson, Gladstone, Taylor and Richardton.

This is Bicentennial Story No. 122, prepared by Clarence Storseth for the Stark County Historical Society.
